Green light for zero-carbon homes in Rackheath

Developers have been given the green light to build a dozen zero-carbon homes in Rackheath.

The homes will be made available to rent at affordable prices and will be fitted with the very best energy-efficiency measures to ensure that bills remain as low as possible.

Greenbuildingpress.co.uk report that the homes will be highly insulated in the roof and walls and will often produce as much electricity as they consume.

It is likely that all of the top letting agents Norwich has to offer will be keen to get their hands on the properties, which will be regarded as some of the greenest in the country.

Speaking to circle.org.uk, local councillor Jo Cottingham claimed that the local authority was keen to add more buildings like these to the region as soon as possible.

She said: "We are committed to providing good housing that people can afford in Broadland and this paves the way for the wider eco-community project which is our long-term ambition.

"We are determined to keep our communities vibrant by giving families and individuals the chance of a home they can call their own, in places they want to live, rather than be priced out of the market."

The £1.7 million development was funded by The Homes and Communities Agency, Broadland District Council and Wherry Housing Association.
