What's It Like To Live in Lowestoft
Lowestoft is the United Kingdoms most Easterly point and is a town within the county of Suffolk. The town is on the North Sea coast and is situated 110 miles North East of London and is steeped in history with some of the earliest evidence of settlements in Britain being found here. Now, the town is split in two by Lake Lothing with the Northern half being the commercial centre and the Southern half being the holiday resort. The East coast of England has established itself as the wind energy capital of the UK with the Orbis Energy centre being at the forefront of it all for small / medium businesses, suppliers and potential investors. As well as this there is also the Beacon Innovation centre which is based at Beacon Park in Gorleston, 8 miles north of Lowestoft. This centre is the major catalyst for business growth within the East of England supplying superb office space and an exciting environment for young, fast growing companies to develop new technologies and services. Companies that current reside here include Seajacks, 3Sun, Fraser Offshore and the East of England Energy Group.
Entertainment
Lowestoft has many entertainment options for you to choose between depending on your interests. The town has the usual array of theatres and cinemas with the Hollywood cinema and The Marina and The Seagull Theatres but also offers such activities as Africa Alive Safari Park and Pleasurewood Hills Theme Park.
If you would prefer a more relaxing activity then the Norfolk Broads are very easily accessible via Oulton Broad where water activities and boat tours can be taken throughout the year. During the summer months Powerboat racing also happens every Thursday, hosting local boats and occasionally a round of National or International championships as well.
Shopping
The town centre is where the majority of shopping takes place within the Waveney district with many major national High Street retailers having branches here. There have now been specialist shopping areas, branded as The Historic High Street and the Triangle Market Place developed to the North of the city while a number of retail parks have been developed within the centre of the town.
Transport
Lowestoft Central train station is centrally based within the town and is within easy walking distance of the town centre as well as the local beach. From here you have an excellent service to Ipswich and Norwich as well as the rest of Britain. The bus service within Lowestoft is also an excellent one offering a link between the town, Norwich and Great Yarmouth as well as within the town and surrounding villages. The X1 service operates a direct line to Peterborough and the National Express coaches stop in Lowestoft between their London to Great Yarmouth Route. The main A12 road from London to Great Yarmouth passes through Lowestoft, crossing the harbour via Bascule Bridge. The A146 also gives a direct link with Norwich and provides a second crossing of Lake Lothing.
